Aljosha Karim Schapals is Senior Lecturer in the School of Communication of Queensland University of Technology (QUT) in Brisbane, Australia, as well as a Chief Investigator in the Digital Media Research Centre (DMRC). He also serves as Review Editor of Media International Australia, a Q1-ranked journal in the field of media and communication studies. Previously, he worked as a Visiting Lecturer at City, University of London, where he also obtained his PhD degree from the Department of Journalism. He has published widely in journals including Digital Journalism, Journalism Practice, and Media and Communication, and is the author of a monograph, Peripheral Actors in Journalism (2022), as well as the lead editor of Digitizing Democracy (2018, both Routledge).
Christian Pentzold is Chair and Professor of Media and Communications in the Department for Communication and Media Studies at the University of Leipzig. Before that, he worked in the Center for Media, Communication and Information Research at the University of Bremen and at Chemnitz University of Technology. At Leipzig, he is one of the co-directors of the Center for Digital Participation. He is broadly interested in the construction and appropriation of digital media and the roles information and communication technologies play in modern society. He has published widely in journals like Media, Culture & Society, New Media & Society, Digital Journalism, Convergence, and the Annals of the International Communication Association. He has also edited a number of books including the Handbook of Peer Production (Wiley, 2021) and Making Time for Digital Lives: Beyond Chronotopia (Rowman & Littlefield, 2020).
