This book covers much of the research completed by collaborators and myself. It lists stepwise people who inspired me and whom I came to know through Dr. Gantt, the last American to work with Pavlov, and his scientific and literary friends. It includes Pavlov's outstanding student, Dos Passos, Scott Fitzgerald, Bernard Shaw, and many others. Except Dos Passos, most of Gantt's literary friends were deceased when I joined Gantt at Hopkins in 1950. I learned about these friends through taped interviews we made with Dr. Gantt. My four main professors at the University of Chicago were Kleitman, Havighurst, Rogers, and Krogman. These teachers including Gantt influenced nearly everything that my associates and I published.
