Memory Laws (Paperback) (ISBN-13: 9798247039907)

In a chillingly plausible future, the very essence of human experience - memory - has become a tightly controlled commodity. Under the oppressive regime of the Memory Tax System (MTS), every recollection carries a price tag. From the mundane moments of daily life to the most profound instances of love and loss, memories are taxed, traded, and often erased if their owners cannot afford to retain them. This dystopian society, built on the foundation of forgotten truths, is about to be shaken to its core.
Elias Kade, a low-wage worker haunted by the ghost of his beloved Mira, understands the cost of remembering all too well. He toils tirelessly, sacrificing a decade of his existence for a single day of unfiltered recollection - a chance to relive precious moments with Mira before she was taken by the system. But this carefully orchestrated return to the past yields a shocking revelation. Elias discovers that memories are not destroyed by the MTS; they are merely suppressed, locked away within the depths of the human mind.
This startling truth ignites a spark of rebellion within Elias. He is thrust into the dangerous underground, joining forces with The Unforgotten, a clandestine group of rebels fighting to reclaim their past and liberate the memories of an entire populace. Their leader, Mira, was captured for daring to challenge the MTS, and Elias is driven by a desperate hope to save her fragmented consciousness from the regime's grasp.
Their perilous mission leads them to the heart of the system: the Central Memory Vault. Here, amidst the constant threat of the Bureau of Cognitive Enforcement, Elias and The Unforgotten engage in fierce battles for control of the past. Elias faces an impossible dilemma: rescue the remnants of Mira's memories, or unleash a powerful virus capable of unlocking the repressed recollections of everyone living under the MTS.
In a climactic act of defiance, Elias makes a profound sacrifice, one that reverberates across the globe and ignites the Memory Revolution. His actions shatter the foundations of a world built on lies and forgotten truths, forever altering the course of humanity's relationship with its own history.
"Memory Laws" is a gripping tale of love that transcends even the erasure of memory, the profound pain of loss, and the indomitable power of the human spirit to fight for truth and liberation. It is a story that compels readers to question the very nature of identity when our past is no longer our own and to consider the immeasurable value of our memories in shaping who we are. This science fiction novel delves into the depths of a dystopian future, exploring themes of oppression, rebellion, and the enduring strength of human connection in the face of unimaginable control.
that questions who we are when our past is no longer our own.
