Part of the solution may be a disgraced militia captain named Gwielgi, self-exiled to the planet's Portaka desert.

Mercenary's Honor is the second of the Wild Geese novels. Like the first, Mercenary's Heart, it examines adult themes. Honor and what is done in its name is at the core of this account of war in the 29th Century. The deliberately developed cultures of Kodomir and that of the Currahee and even Kodomir's enemies, real and potential, come into play as the Kodomiri struggle with a war that could lead to their annihilation.

Steven M. Silver's own background as Marine, Soldier, historian, and psychologist serves to ground the Wild Geese science-fiction novels in reality.
