Mother CÃ(c)cile in South Africa (Paperback) (ISBN-13: 9781025852775)

"Mother Cecile in South Africa 1883-1906" is a poignant biographical account of the life and spiritual legacy of Cecile Isherwood, the dedicated foundress of the Community of the Resurrection of Our Lord in Grahamstown. Written by a member of her own community, this work provides an intimate look at the challenges and triumphs of missionary life in late 19th-century South Africa during a period of significant social transformation.

The narrative explores Mother Cecile's profound commitment to education and social reform. Arriving in Africa at a young age, she devoted her life to establishing schools and training colleges, most notably the Grahamstown Training College, which played a pivotal role in the development of South African education. Her visionary leadership and deep faith allowed her to navigate the complex social and political landscapes of the Cape Colony with grace and determination.

As both a historical document and a spiritual testament, this book captures the essence of a woman whose influence extended far beyond the walls of her convent. It offers readers a detailed perspective on Anglican missions, the empowerment of women through religious service, and the enduring impact of a life dedicated to the service of others. "Mother Cecile in South Africa 1883-1906" remains an essential resource for those interested in missionary history, South African heritage, and the evolution of educational institutions in the region.
