Laura Kirstine is the author of Mother's Home. This is the first book she has ever written. She was born in Cleveland, Ohio but her family moved back to upstate New York. Her mother and father divorced early in her life. Her mother eventually bought an old farmhouse that used to be an old migrant camp for field workers. The house had no furnace or even a useable bathroom. All that had to be fixed and worked on during the years that they lived there. Laura, later on in her life, moved to Utah for the purpose of furthering her education. She attended the University of Utah and was admitted into the Honors at Entrance program. She was an English major and loved the college community. It was here that one of her professors told her that she had a unique writing ability and his words changed her life. The book started as an effort to help others who have gone through child abuse and have been told by a parent "not to tell family secrets," or "you do not air the family's dirty laundry." It is Laura's hope that in the writing of her "family secrets" someone else might not feel so alone in their pain.
