Dr. Richard O'Connell's experience in counseling includes the roles of district guidance coordinator, director of guidance and counselor in various New York and New Jersey public and private schools. He is the recipient of the New York State and Nassau County's "Counselor of the Year Awards" and numerous New York State and Nassau Counselor's Association awards for his innovative programs and professional publications dealing with all aspects of guidance services. His book won the NYS Counselors Association Award as the "Outstanding Guidance Publication of 2007." He began his career teaching fifty-four student, eight subjects a day in the same classroom. He then spent two years teaching high school English before beginning his career as a guidance counselor. He has a Doctorate in Educational Leadership from Nova Southeastern University, two Masters Degrees from Manhattan College in Counseling Psychology and English Literature and a Bachelor of Arts from The Catholic University of America. Presently, he is a professor at CW Post, Long Island University, and is doing consulting work to improve high school guidance services. In 2007 he was chosen for his work in education as one of the Top 100 Irish Americans for that year.
