Lift the hood on 20 years of magic and mayhem on Top Gear and The Grand Tour -- from the man behind the camera.
The perfect gift for fans of fast cars, big laughs, and full-throttle TV adventures.
Top Gear transformed Sunday nights, turning a modest car review program into a global phenomenon. With Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Hammond, and James May at the wheel, the show's chemistry, humor, and outrageous stunts captivated audiences worldwide. At its peak, it earned a Guinness World Record as the most-watched factual television program on the planet.
Then, suddenly, it was over.
How did a straightforward consumer advice show about cars become one of the biggest entertainment brands in the world? What went wrong? And how did the team regroup to create The Grand Tour, reaching new audiences and even greater heights?
Andy Wilman has the answers.
As co-creator of Top Gear and The Grand Tour, and Jeremy Clarkson's oldest friend, Wilman was there from the very beginning. In Mr Wilman's Motoring Adventure, he finally steps out from behind the scenes to tell the inside story of two of the most successful motoring shows ever made.
Irreverent, candid, and packed with behind-the-scenes revelations, this is the definitive account of the chaos, creativity, and camaraderie that fueled more than two decades of television history.
Andy Wilman is the author of no books. Except this one. He did however have a career in journalism which began at Auto Express and continued at Top Gear magazine, before making the leap from print to television when he helped produce Jeremy Clarkson's Motorworld. After a brief and monumentally forgettable spell in front of the camera Andy realized the best place for his face was behind it, and with that sorted he and Jeremy went on to make some very watchable telly, including Meet the Neighbours, the 2002 reinvented Top Gear, The Grand Tour, and a couple of cracking WW2 documentaries. His driving license is currently in a drawer somewhere at the DVLA.
