MY LIFE

Family and My Job as a Bus Driver

From the outside, Janis Siegfried's life looked ordinary - early mornings, long shifts behind the wheel of a city bus, and the daily grind of public transit. But behind the uniform lies a deeply moving story of resilience, love, and second chances.

After a rocky start as a metalworker, Janis traded his tools for a steering wheel and became a bus driver in North Rhine-Westphalia. What followed were years filled with chaotic passengers, lost-and-found treasures (from turtles to sex toys to bags of weed), burning buses, helicopter parents, and the soul-crushing bureaucracy of shift work. Through it all, he fought to provide for the family he loves.

Then he met Tabea - a woman recovering from a devastating stroke, raising two small children, and rebuilding her life after a broken marriage. What began as a cautious romance grew into a powerful partnership that would be tested by job loss, grueling commutes, health scares, and the challenges of blending a family.

Raw, honest, and heartfelt, My Life is a tribute to the quiet heroes who keep our cities moving - and to the love that makes the hardest days worth enduring. It's a story about showing up, never giving up, and finding beauty in the everyday struggle.

For fans of Hillbilly Elegy, The Glass Castle, and Matthew McConaughey's Greenlights - an authentic, uplifting memoir about work, family, and the power of choosing love every single day.
