My Little Paradise: How a Donut And a Scooter Help Me Live Alone, Not Lonely (Paperback) (ISBN-13: 9798196813368)

INDEPENDENCE - THE MAKE-OR-BREAK DECISION AN 0LD MAN MUST MAKEThe book is about the author himself who, through the process of aging and tallying more years on his age, is confronted with the choice of living independently alone or living in the company of someone. He chose to live alone, and with only a year and a half of living alone he concludes he made the right decision, and he does not regret it a bit. On the other hand, he regrets why he did not make the decision sooner.

Living in a mobile home was unthinkable when the author was in the early years of retirement in 2002. Now that he is almost 91 years old and his wife is gone, the mobile home living has become more acceptable. With a unit only 30 feet away from the clear blue lake, the living environment has even become a possession that he has become very proud of. With the 65%-75% savings in shelter costs, the author has become bolder in praising his decision to have sold his condominium unit in exchange for the outright ownership of a mobile home.

Not having to stop driving a car was unthinkable as well in 2002. At age 91 vision has deteriorated and so do reflex reactions. The author realizes the danger to himself and to others of diminished reflexive reactions which can cause accidents. So, the need for a transportation device to replace the car has become urgent. The author has tested using a medium heavy scooter as a car replacement. The experiment was well suited and has become the basis for shopping for a heavier duty scooter. Further reducing shelter costs, a scooter owner does not have to pay insurance on the device, neither does he have to renew its registration every year.TRANSITIONING TO SCOOTER-BASED MOBILITYOne significant advantage of owning a scooter is its efficiency and cost-effectiveness. Unlike traditional vehicles, a scooter does not require gasoline for operation. Instead, it relies solely on electrical power, with the battery needing to be recharged once it reaches a low level. This feature not only reduces ongoing expenses but also simplifies maintenance.
A central theme in this book is the pursuit of a heavy-duty scooter that can adequately serve as a substitute for a car and become the primary means of daily transportation. The author's experience highlights the importance of finding a reliable scooter that meets mobility needs, and he is willing to invest more in such a device. For the author, the scooter has become an essential part of his life-almost like a home on wheels, much like his car once was.
