In 1922, people from across the globe were racing to Hollywood to become stars! Sabina Koenig, an usherette at Chicago's Keystone Theater, is encouraged by her coworker, Matt Jeffreys, to watch Rudolph Valentino perform his breakout role as Julio Desnoyers in the film The Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse.
Sabina is mesmerized as she watches Valentino dance the tango, so much so she decides to go to Hollywood to meet Valentino.
Sabina is unaware Matt is in love with her and confides to Matt that she will be traveling to Hollywood. Matt mentions that his starstruck sister, Jean, is interested in Hollywood. Jean believes she has star qualities and eagerly accompanies Sabina on her trip to Hollywood. The girls arrive in Hollywood and face one frustration after the next. They seem to be getting nowhere in their pursuit of the Hollywood dream.
Meanwhile, Valentino is also facing frustrations with his Hollywood dream, which may prevent his fans from seeing him on the screen. What the girls have in common with Valentino is the sorrow that will mar their dreams, and the realization of what matters most in life.
