Susan Anderson teaches, speaks, and writes about African American history, politics, and culture, with an emphasis on California and the West. She is the managing director of "L.A. as Subject," an association of libraries and archives hosted by the University of Southern California. She has been a Visiting Professor at Pitzer College in Claremont and is a contributor to the Los Angeles Times Sunday Opinion.
