Lawrence B. Mohr received his undergraduate degree in English literature, which was the impetus that sparked his enduring interest in the novels of the 18th through the early 20th century and some of the social issues they raise. His penchant for the arts persisted and finally culminated after military service in a stint of several years as a folk singer. As Larry Mohr, he sang and played with Odetta at the Tin Angel in San Francisco and they did a recording together for Fantasy Records. Later he worked for the U.S. Public Health Service before returning to school for a Master's in Public Policy and a PhD in Political Science. He enjoyed a long, satisfying, and rewarding career in teaching and research at the University of Michigan, where he specialized in organization theory, program evaluation, and the methods of research. Upon retirement, he returned his attention to the arts by writing a screen play based on a Victorian novel (Wilkie Collins's Hide and Seek) while concurrently working on the present book. Novels and Hormones combines his interest in significant social issues, the methodology of social research, and the great novels of the Victorian era.
