Born and bred in the New York City area, Joe Abbate moved to Central New York in the 1970's to attend college at SUNY Oswego. It was there where he met his future wife. They were married shortly after graduation and have lived here ever since. A stay-at-home father for 18 years, Joe now works as a freelance web and graphic designer and writer. He is the co-author of Classified Terminally Ill: MY Story of Beating the Odds, along with C.V. Abbott, has finished a novel about caring for his father at the time of his death, and is in the process of publishing other books and short stories that he has written. Stricken with Hodgkin's Disease in his 30's, Joe battled the illness and is now a survivor for 25+ years. He has counseled others with cancer and spoken of his experiences in public. He also publishes an inspirational blog called "Stepping Out With an Agoraphobic" (http: //steppingoutwithanagoraphobic.wordpress.com/). Joe uses humor to help people with anxiety disorders (and other illnesses) cope with life. His blog also showcases his artwork and photography. He is currently a member of a local writer's group, and has other projects in the works.
