This is the record of one patient's treatment for Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (CFS) by Dr. Joseph Brewer of Kansas City, MO. It's the telling of the author's twelve year healing journey from hospice care to recovery from CFS.

So circa 2013, using a newly developed medical test, Dr. Brewer and two other independent CFS doctors tested their patients for toxic mold infection. In all three medical practices, the positivity rate for this specific infection was approximately 90%. By 2016, in Dr. Brewer's practice alone, over 500 of his CFS, fibromyalgia and chronic Lyme disease patients had tested positive for toxic mold infection. Additionally, in late 2017, Dr. Brewer discovered that Mast Cell Activation Syndrome (MCAS) can play a major role in CFS, and for which he has also treated his patients. Along with co-infections - like reactivated HHV-6 and EBV viruses - Dr. Brewer has painted a more complete picture of the illnesses of CFS, fibromyalgia and chronic Lyme disease than has previously been understood. Unfortunately, even though Dr. Brewer has published four papers on his work with toxic mold, his work hasn't received much attention because it doesn't have a clinical trial behind it. Funding for such a trial has been a problem. Still, the three doctors above, plus one other prominent fibromyalgia specialist, have helped hundreds of their CFS patients over the years to see a significant improvement in their health, if not completely recover. Regrettably, out of these four doctors - who are named in the book - one has passed away, two are semi-retired, and Dr. Brewer is near retirement. Because of this, I'm afraid this valuable medical information is about to be lost to the CFS patient population.

Now I know most CFS patients think they haven't been exposed to toxic mold. But in 1999, the Mayo Clinic did a study where they took cultures in people's sinuses. Mayo was expecting to find allergens, but to their surprise, they also found that everybody had mold in their sinuses. For most people, the mold they had was the standard outdoor mold that is innocuous and doesn't produce toxins. But we now know, for some people, some of the mold in their sinuses is toxic mold. And whether it becomes toxic to you, and makes you a CFS patient, is determined by genetics, and sometimes also by a triggering event. Then, when the mold becomes activated, it emits toxins that get into the blood stream and are distributed throughout the body 24/7, causing the symptoms of the illness. And over the last eight years, with an improved toxic mold test, virtually all of Dr. Brewer's CFS patients have tested positive for toxic mold. So statistically, if you have CFS, you have toxic mold inside you. But the good news is, it is treatable. In this book, Dr. Brewer makes his case many times over as to how big a player toxic mold is in his CFS, fibromyalgia and chronic Lyme disease patients.
