On The Germination, Development, And Fructification Of The Higher Cryptogamia And On The Fructification Of The Coniferae (1862) (Paperback) (ISBN-13: 9781164955290)

""On The Germination, Development, And Fructification Of The Higher Cryptogamia And On The Fructification Of The Coniferae"" is a scientific book written by Wilhelm Friedrich Benedict Hofmeister in 1862. The book focuses on the study of the reproductive processes of higher cryptogams and conifers, which are two groups of plants that reproduce through spores rather than seeds. The author begins by discussing the germination of spores and the development of gametophytes, which are the structures that produce gametes. He then goes on to describe the fertilization process and the development of sporophytes, which are the structures that produce spores. The book also covers the fructification, or fruiting, of these plants, including the formation of sporangia and the release of spores. Hofmeister provides detailed illustrations and descriptions of the various structures involved in these processes, as well as the differences between the reproductive processes of higher cryptogams and conifers. Overall, ""On The Germination, Development, And Fructification Of The Higher Cryptogamia And On The Fructification Of The Coniferae"" is a comprehensive and detailed account of the reproductive processes of these important groups of plants, and remains a valuable resource for botanists and plant scientists today. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations.
