Alison, or Aly as she is more usually addressed, a single mother of five-year-old Sophia, is on the run from an abusive relationship with her husband and his family. They are currently in the throes of their eighth or ninth panic-stricken move, following an encounter with one of her husband's old friends at a wedding reception.

Fearing that her husband and his family are trying to track her down to either force her back under their control or to take her daughter from her, Aly feels that she has no alternative course of action but to move on yet again.
