Calixte, whose name means beautiful, is an endangered African gray parrot who survived harrowing odds. In the Congo, he was rescued from poachers, who cut his wings so he couldn't fly, and rehabilitated at a Wildlife Conservation Society sanctuary in the Nouabal -Ndoki National Park. Kimball Learning Center, an elementary school in Park Slope, Brooklyn, wrote and illustrated the story of his incredible journey and rehabilitation success story - the fifth book in a series about endangered animals. The year-long project was a collaboration between P.S. 107's Beast Relief committee and the WCS. All proceeds from sale of the book will go directly to the rehabilitation of African gray parrots in the Congo.
