Matt Wilbur is the product of the "Running Boom" of the late 1970s. He became a pretty good marathon runner with a personal best of 2:59:40. But his running took on a new purpose in 2002 when he was diagnosed with Parkinson's disease. Matt uses his running, not only to help himself stay "One Step Ahead of Parkinson's Disease", but also to impact the lives of others. Matt is scheduled to run his fourth consecutive New York City Marathon on November 4, 2012. He continues to run to raise funds for the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson's Research.

Matt Wilbur grew up in Wyoming, Ohio. He received a BS degree from Miami University in 1975 with a major in math education and a minor in physical education. He also received a MEd from Ashland College in Sports Science in 1983. He was a teacher and coach for 35 years while raising a family in Mount Vernon, Ohio. Upon retiring in 2010, he and his wife Julie moved to Cincinnati, Ohio to reside near their two daughters: Kristen Martin and Cory Wilbur
