Opposing Principles Of Henry Clay, And Abraham Lincoln (1860) (Paperback) (ISBN-13: 9781167032608)

Opposing Principles of Henry Clay and Abraham Lincoln is a book written by John Hill in 1860. The book explores the political ideologies and principles of two of America's most prominent politicians - Henry Clay and Abraham Lincoln. Clay was a senator and representative from Kentucky who served as the Speaker of the House of Representatives and Secretary of State. Lincoln, on the other hand, was a lawyer and politician from Illinois who went on to become the 16th President of the United States. The book compares and contrasts the political beliefs and principles of Clay and Lincoln, highlighting their similarities and differences. Hill argues that while both men were committed to the preservation of the Union, they had different views on how to achieve that goal. Clay was a proponent of compromise and believed in the importance of preserving the balance of power between the North and the South. Lincoln, on the other hand, was a staunch opponent of slavery and believed that it was necessary to take a firm stand against the South in order to preserve the Union. The book also examines the impact that Clay and Lincoln had on American politics and society. Hill argues that both men played a significant role in shaping the political landscape of their time and that their ideas and principles continue to influence American politics today.Overall, Opposing Principles of Henry Clay and Abraham Lincoln is a fascinating exploration of two of America's most important political figures and their competing ideologies. It provides valuable insights into the political and social dynamics of mid-19th century America and remains a relevant and thought-provoking read today. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations.
