Options Assignment & Exercise: Turning Assignment from a Risk into a Profitable Strategy (Paperback) (ISBN-13: 9798290187594)

Options Assignment & Exercise

Master the Most Overlooked Risk in Options Trading - Assignment

Have you ever been hit by a sudden stock delivery after selling options?
Faced a margin call you didn't expect?
Watched a good trade turn stressful during expiry week?

Then this book is your missing manual.

Many traders lose money not because their strategy was flawed, but because they didn't fully understand the risk of assignment.

In Options Assignment & Exercise, experienced trader Pradeep Chelani breaks down one of the most misunderstood aspects of derivatives trading: the assignment and exercise process.

Whether you're running covered calls, managing spreads, or deploying iron condors, assignment can disrupt your trade-unless you're ready.

With real examples, clear language, and practical guidance, this book explains:

• When and why assignment happens

• How to avoid early exercises triggered by ex-dividend dates

• What steps to take after being assigned

• How OCC decides who gets selected

• How to roll or hedge positions to reduce risk

• The real mechanism of OCC assignment and option exercise

• Early assignment myths-why they often happen before expiry

• Real trades gone wrong, with lessons you can apply immediately

• The difference in assignment risk for calls vs. puts

• Hidden costs: delivery fees, taxes, and margin implications

• How dividends lead to surprise assignments

• What to do when the stock price hovers at your strike (pin risk)

• How brokers handle assignment before it shows up in your account

• Tools and techniques to monitor and reduce risk before expiry

• Retail traders selling options without full understanding

• Beginners trying to trade safely

• Intermediate traders using verticals, spreads, or cash-secured puts

• Students learning derivatives through real-world logic

• Trainers who want a clear guide to explain assignment

• Anyone who's ever wondered: "Why was I assigned?"

Most options books stop at strategy. This one goes deeper-into what happens after you've placed the trade.

Pradeep shares the often-ignored realities of assignment, including its emotional impact: confusion, stress, and regret-and shows you how to replace that with clarity, confidence, and calm execution.

He simplifies technical ideas with trader-friendly language, case studies, and actionable insights you can apply right away.

• A weekly Assignment Risk Checklist

• Sample option chain analysis showing red flags

• A decision tree to guide your next steps after assignment

• A simple calendar method for tracking dividends and expiry

• Protective adjustments for short option sellers

"Most traders don't think about assignment until it hits them hard. I wrote this book to make sure it never surprises you again."
- Pradeep Chelani
