Kilimanjaro was to be included in Cape to Cairo but when I first visited the mountain, the rainy season had started so there was a lot of rain and there would be nothing to see so it didn't get a mention in that book, so I had to go back to visit it at the right time of year.
Erta Ale is a trip to a semi-permanent lava lake in Ethiopia, one of only eight in the world, It was to have been included in Cape to Cairo but it had recently erupted and the lava lake had drained and there was nothing to see.
