Our Enemy The Government 2nd Edition (Paperback) (ISBN-13: 9781763884571)

In this updated and expanded edition, Ramesh Thakur exposes how the COVID-19 pandemic enabled unprecedented expansions of state power, with a new focus on Australia's experience.

Panicked governments turned the world upside down. From coercive lockdowns in Melbourne to federal overreach in border closures, the boundary between liberal democracy and authoritarianism proved virus thin. Tools of repression - once hallmarks of despots - became routine, as governments wielded fear and force to silence dissent.

This edition includes fresh analysis of Australian policies, vaccine mandates, and their global echoes, alongside updated international data on harms to public health, economy, and freedoms.

Revalidating Lord Acton's warning that power corrupts, Thakur calls for accountability in a post-pandemic world.

This book is worth the attention of anyone who wants to understand how and why governments and the world's health bureaucracies ignored the devastating harms and failures of the lockdown-focused policies they implemented during the covid pandemic." Jay Bhattacharya

"The emergence of Ramesh Thakur as a voice of reason is one of the few good things to come out of the pandemic. I find it difficult to disagree with anything he says." Toby Young, Editor-in-Chief, The Daily Sceptic.
