He studied Economics, followed by a Master of Business Administration in a program between Notre Dame University and the London Graduate School of Business. Professionally, he started as a professor and researcher in economics and finance in the Mexican banking system. He immigrated to Canada in 1987 where assisted the Ministry of Economic Development in creating a database for businesses in the service industry for the Province of British Columbia.
