This is a political thriller which is situated in early revolutionary Iran against the background of actual events that took place in the year 1983, when the author was working in Iran. Although the plot was dramatized, the story has many autobiographical elements. The main characters are an idealist Iranian woman with leftish inclinations; her realist father, an army general; a jealous ex-husband; and a bewildered foreigner who get caught in a web of intrigue.

The author is a recently retired European diplomat who is specialized in security and governance issues in Southeastern Europe, North-Africa and Southwest Asia, based on his experience in various government departments and during postings in New York, Tehran, Berlin, Vienna and Sarajevo. He previously published the political thriller "Afghan Liaisons: War Coming Home" which was completed in 1995, long before 9/11, the Arab Spring and the Occupy Movement, but foreshadows all three. Central themes in this novel are the growing rifts between the rich and the poor and the old and the young as well as dilemmas regarding identity and political loyalty.
