This publication examines multi-hazard disaster risk assessments (MHDRAs) across the Pacific, identifying key practices, challenges, and opportunities in assessing disaster risks and providing actionable recommendations to strengthen resilience in Pacific island countries (PICs).
The publication reviews 18 Pacific MHDRAs and highlights notable trends in the implementation of MHDRAs, including a predominant focus on hydrometeorological risks such as cyclones, coastal flooding, and sea-level rise, as well as geophysical hazards such as tsunamis and volcanic activity. Despite advancements in risk modeling analysis, significant challenges persist in data availability, accessibility, and technical capacity across PICs. By addressing these areas, PICs can maximize the value of MHDRAs in guiding risk-informed investments, enhancing disaster preparedness, and building long-term resilience.
