Michael Gusack, M.A., was diagnosed with a chronic kidney condition over 17 years ago. Ten years ago he was diagnosed with Guillain Barre' Syndrome which is a condition that affects the central and peripheral nervous system. He is nationally certified in Biofeedback and Hypnosis, Sports Counseling, Addictions, and Medical Qigong. A psychotherapist for over 25 years, his involvement with meditation, yoga, Tai Chi, and Qigong has prepared him well to blend the complementary Eastern and Western healing traditions in a way that has empowered thousands to regain control of their lives as they develop the skills and attitudes that best facilitate life's opportunities for joy and satisfaction. His hospitalization with Guillain Barre' Syndrome planted the seed that has developed into this book. The message here goes far beyond the confines of medical illness per se', since it applies to pain that is spiritual, as well as physical in nature. His current practice and interests allow him to push the clinical envelope. He works with biofeedback to facilitate and refine relaxation, meditation, and healing visualizations relative to managing physical and spiritual pain. He is exploring the potential benefits of brain-wave feedback. New treatment modalities such as work with photo-sonic stimulation, low frequency sound wave massage (based on research gleaned from studies of Chinese Qigong healing masters), and microcurrent stimulation are also part of his daily practice. He was recently certified in Medical Qigong. Michael was born in Wiesbaden, Germany. He now lives with his wife of over 25 years and his 12 and 16-year-old daughters in Gulf Breeze, Florida where he bases his private practice. He specializes in pain and illness management, stress management, and performance enhancement training.
