Arturo O. Mart?ez was born in South Texas during the Great Depression, just like Pedrito. After graduating from high school, he joined the army during the Korean War, and later attended Marquette University. He spent over thirty years as a journalist, chronicling civil rights in the South and later, arts and culture at the Newark Star-Ledger. He is the author of the prequel to this book, Pedrito's World, published by Texas Tech University Press. Arturo also edited and wrote the forward to the collection of essays, Nine-Eleven: Hoboken Remembers. As a tireless advocate for libraries, he works closely with the staff and board of the Hoboken Public Library to ensure that children have access to quality literature and educational experiences. Arturo resides in Hoboken, NJ, with his wife, Pat. During his spare time, he enjoys regaling his children, Nora and Peter, with tales from his childhood and beyond.
