In the world of Alphabetia, Miss Jill and her letter students set off on an unforgettable field trip to Past Tense Park! Here, the letters discover a secret about the past tense ending -ed. As the little letters jumped, played, and twisted around the playground equipment, they quickly learned that -ed doesn't always sound the same.
Welcome to our world of Phonics Adventure, crafted with love by two passionate teachers! With a shared mission to make tricky literacy concepts engaging and easy to understand, we've blended storytelling with phonics instruction to turn complex grammar into a joyful read-aloud experience.
Drawing from our classroom experiences, we created Phonics Adventures: Past Tense Park as both a story and a tool. With just one reading, children can see, hear, and practice the three sounds of -ed, while giving teachers a playful way to introduce and reinforce this rule. This book isn't just a story... it's a memory-making adventure that brings phonics to life!
Phonics Rule: Past Tense -ed
The suffix -ed can sound 3 ways,
It changes with the verb it plays.
No voice? It's /t/, so crisp and clear.
A voiced end? /d/ is what you hear.
But end with t or end with d,
Then /id/ is the sound you'll need.
So think about the sound you hear,
And the right -ed will soon be clear!
