The first purpose is a navigational guide; and the Beacons as navigational guides will only be effective if the locations are known very precisely. Specifically, each Space Beacon emits a unique signal, which is then correlated to a location on the Beacon Map. Thus, using the Beacon Signal and Beacon Map, the crew will know their location whenever passing a Beacon. ///However, in order to make this effective, we must know the exact location of each Space Beacon. Those who place the Beacon will use the procedures here to determine the precise location. They will also collect the necessary data needed for the Beacon Maps. Therefore, the procedures in this publication regarding Beacon Placement and Beacon Data, are important for the success of the Beacon Network as navigational guide. ///The second purpose is to be a communication relay between planets; which will only work if the Beacons are aligned precisely. Specifically, the communication system works by relaying messages from Beacon to Beacon, down the Beacon Line. In this way, we can send messages from any one planet to another, regardless of distance. ////However, in order to make this work, the adjacent beacons must be precisely aligned. If the dishes of the beacons, or the beacons themselves, deviate too far from the direct line, then the message may miss the target dish completely. Therefore, the orientation and physical location of the beacons are important for our ability to communicate with each other over the vast distances of space. The Space Beacons must also be maintained. Therefore, this publication also sets forth many of the procedures for inspection and maintenance of the Space Beacons.
