Jo Yeager was born in Douglas, Georgia, and graduated from Douglas High School. She received her bachelor's degree from Valdosta State College, and her master's from Florida State University. She is married to Colonel Marvin Yeager, and as a military wife, she taught in Bainbridge, Georgia; Ramstein, Germany; Orlando, Florida; and Fort Walton Beach, Florida. After earning her master's degree from FSU, she taught at FSU's main campus in Tallahassee, where she coached the competitive speech team. She also taught speech at FSU's Panama City campus. For fifteen years, Jo taught speech and drama and directed plays and musicals at Choctawhatchee High School in Fort Walton Beach, Florida.
