Sarah L. Surface-Evans joined the Michigan State Historic Preservation Office (SHPO) as Senior Archaeologist in 2022 after a decade as a professor of Anthropology at Central Michigan University. Sarah specializes in community-based archaeological practice in the Great Lakes region.
