Postulate of the Psychoanalytic Function: Vocation, Formation, Clinical Practice, and the Analyst's Responsibility (Paperback) (ISBN-13: 9798255745661)

Postulate of the Psychoanalytic Function is a bold and original contribution to contemporary psychoanalytic thought.

In this book, Paulo Bassinello Caram proposes that psychoanalysis cannot be reduced to theoretical knowledge, institutional recognition, or technical procedure alone. To practice psychoanalysis, something more is required: the constitution of an inner function capable of ordering psychic representations, sustaining analytic listening, containing affective intensity, and making interpretation possible.

Developing this central thesis across questions of vocation, formation, transference, countertransference, silence, speech, abstinence, ethics, and the contemporary world, Caram offers a rigorous meditation on what must take shape within the analyst for psychoanalytic work to remain faithful to its method and responsibility.

This is a book for psychoanalysts, candidates in formation, clinicians, and serious readers of psychoanalysis who wish to explore the analyst's position with greater depth. Philosophically grounded, clinically attentive, and ethically demanding, Postulate of the Psychoanalytic Function argues that the future of psychoanalysis depends not only on preserving its concepts, but on preserving the inner conditions that make analytic work possible.
