Life rarely slows down long enough for us to build a strong prayer life.
There are bills to pay, jobs to keep, children to raise, relationships to nurture, responsibilities to carry, and unexpected crises that seem to arrive without warning. Before long, our schedules become crowded, our minds become overwhelmed, and one of the first things to suffer is our time with God. We don't stop loving Him. We simply stop making room for Him.
Over time, what was once a vibrant prayer life becomes inconsistent. Prayer becomes something we do when we have time rather than something around which we build our lives.
Prayer 101: Building a Prayer Life That Lasts was written to change that.
This is not another book that simply tells you to pray more. It is a practical guide to building a life that naturally produces consistent, passionate, and lasting prayer. It speaks to the real struggles believers face every day and offers practical, biblical solutions that can be applied immediately.
The journey begins by helping you settle down. Before you can grow spiritually, you must first bring order to the chaos around you and within you. Whether your life is overwhelmed by responsibilities, filled with self-created busyness, or simply drifting without direction, a strong prayer life begins with becoming settled.
Once you are settled, you will discover the importance of learning to organize yourself. Organization is more than keeping a calendar. It is learning to value what matters most, establishing priorities based on those values, and intentionally giving your relationship with God the time and attention it deserves.
But organization alone is never enough.
Life has a way of disrupting even the best plans. That is why you must also learn to discipline yourself. Discipline is the decision to honor your priorities long after the excitement of making them has disappeared. It protects your values, guards your time, and keeps you faithful when distractions compete for your attention.
Even the most disciplined believer will eventually need encouragement. There are seasons when the fire burns brightly and seasons when it burns low. That is why this book teaches you how to inspire yourself. You will learn how to recognize the sources that strengthen your spirit, how to make them easily accessible, and how to continually fuel your walk with God instead of waiting until you are spiritually empty.
Yet every Christian eventually reaches moments when inspiration alone is not enough.
There are days when prayer feels effortless, and there are days when every minute must be fought for. Those are the moments that require us to persevere. You will discover why some of God's greatest work in our lives happens not during moments of excitement but while we faithfully remain in prayer when everything within us wants to quit.
Finally, you will learn why God never intended us to fight every spiritual battle alone. Through collaboration, you will discover the power of prayer partners, corporate prayer, and godly relationships that strengthen, encourage, and sustain your spiritual life. Sometimes we stand strong on our own. At other times, we borrow strength from others until our own fire burns brightly again.
These six principles have shaped my own prayer life for more than three decades. They have sustained me through changing seasons, demanding ministry, international travel, spiritual battles, and the ordinary pressures of everyday life. They are simple enough to practice immediately, yet profound enough to sustain a lifetime of walking with God.
My prayer is that these principles will do for you what they have done for me: help you build not merely a habit of prayer, but a prayer life that lasts.
