Primate Movie Guide: When the Pet Turns Predator: How 3 Friends-Lucy, Hannah, and Kate-Got Trapped as Pet Chimp Ben Contracts Rabies and Goes on a Mur (Paperback) (ISBN-13: 9798242391741)

THE PRIMATE MOVIE GUIDE 2026

If you've caught Primate in theaters or you're about to, you already know it's one of those rare horror films that gets under your skin and stays there. Johannes Roberts takes a simple, terrifying idea-a beloved family pet chimp named Ben contracts rabies and turns on everyone-and turns it into 89 minutes of pure, nonstop tension. The story follows Lucy (Johnny Sequoyah in a breakout lead role), a college kid coming home to her stunning Hawaiian house for a pool party with her closest friends Hannah (Jessica Alexander) and Kate (Victoria Wyant). Her younger sister Erin (Gia Hunter) and deaf father Adam (Troy Kotsur, bringing real depth and authenticity) round out the family, along with Ben, their adopted chimpanzee who's been raised like a son and even signs with them.
What starts as sun-soaked fun flips into a nightmare the moment Ben gets bitten. The transformation is heartbreaking and brutal, and the glass-walled house that felt like paradise becomes a trap none of them can escape.
This guide is written for anyone who loves the movie and wants more. I break down the full story beat by beat (with clear spoiler warnings), go deep on every major character-from Lucy's quiet strength as the final girl to Adam's powerful, mostly silent performance-and explore how the practical effects team made Ben's attacks feel sickeningly real.
You'll get the behind-the-scenes details on Roberts' vision, the real-life incidents that inspired the film (yes, including the Travis case), the themes of family, trust, and what happens when we try to tame something wild, plus trivia, comparisons to classics like Cujo and Nope, and plenty of insight into why this one hits so hard.
Whether you're a hardcore horror fan who appreciates practical gore over CGI jumps, someone drawn to smart contained thrillers, or just curious about one of the year's most talked-about genre films, this book will give you everything you need to appreciate Primate on a whole new level.
Pick it up, revisit the nightmare, and see why so many of us can't stop thinking about Ben.
