Purgatory: An Appalachian Gothic Mystery (Paperback) (ISBN-13: 9798192232972)

Murder. Second chances. Appalachian secrets. And just enough impossible to make you wonder.

Attie Ginn came home to Purgatory County to survive.

A year after a house fire killed her children and shattered the life she'd built, the former Ohio BCI investigator has returned to the Appalachian hometown she spent twenty years trying to escape. Her marriage is over, her house is gone, and her new job as sheriff comes with a department scarred by corruption and an infamous cold case: an entire family slaughtered in a single night while the suspected killers vanished without a trace.

Then local troublemaker Denim Fetty turns up dead, shot fifteen times.

What should be one ugly small-town murder starts pulling at threads nobody wants touched: an old bank robbery, missing money, powerful families, dangerous secrets, and questions that creep disturbingly close to Attie's own past.

Fortunately-or possibly not-there's Seeley King.

Attie's first love is still handsome as heck, infuriatingly brilliant, and running the family junkyard like his own hillbilly kingdom. Seeley can fix almost anything. He knows everybody. Everybody owes somebody a favor.

And sometimes impossible things seem to happen simply because Seeley wants them to.

To solve the murder and rebuild a department nobody trusts, Attie will have to dig into the secrets of the county she fled. But the closer she gets to the truth, the more she realizes Purgatory may hold something she never expected to find there.

A reason to stay.

From true-crime journalist Cyn Mackley, author of the Camelot, West Virginia and Goode-Grace Mysteries, comes Book One of the Purgatory County Mysteries, a new Appalachian Gothic mystery series about murder, first love, second chances, and a place where the past refuses to stay buried.

If you like your love stories littered with corpses... and cats... there's always a cat... welcome to Purgatory County.

Some places don't forget.
