Quran and Science: A Psychiatrist's Journey through Faith, Mind, and the Cosmos (Paperback) (ISBN-13: 9781807250362)

Can the Qur'an and modern science speak to one another in a meaningful and intellectually honest way?

In Quran and Science: A Psychiatrist's Journey through Faith, Mind, and the Cosmos, Dr Hasan Derwish, a UK Consultant Forensic Psychiatrist, offers a thoughtful and accessible exploration of the relationship between revelation, scientific discovery and the human search for meaning. Written for readers of all backgrounds, the book invites both Muslim and non-Muslim audiences to consider how faith, reason, observation and reflection can contribute to a deeper understanding of the universe and the human self.

Drawing on clinical experience, Islamic scholarship and scientific reflection, Dr Derwish examines a wide range of subjects through the lens of the Qur'an, including cosmology, astronomy, geology, oceanography, biology, embryology, physics, psychology, mental health and the nature of the human soul. Rather than presenting science and religion as opposing forces, he takes a balanced and reflective approach, exploring how the signs within creation and the signs within revelation may speak to one another.

What makes this book distinctive is the author's background in psychiatry. Alongside discussions of science, faith and theology, he reflects on the mind, human development, emotional suffering, moral responsibility and the relationship between mental health and belief. These themes are explored in clear, readable language, making complex ideas approachable without losing depth or seriousness.

Rooted in Islamic thought but written with openness and warmth, Quran and Science is not only for Muslim readers seeking a deeper connection between faith and knowledge. It is also for students, academics, clinicians, seekers, and thoughtful general readers interested in the wider relationship between religion and science, psychology and spirituality, and the enduring human search for truth.

At its heart, this is a book about wonder, humility and reflection. It invites readers to look again at the cosmos, the natural world, the human mind and the self within, and to consider how scientific discovery and spiritual insight may together enrich our understanding of existence.

For readers interested in Islamic thought, science and religion, psychology, spirituality and contemporary questions of meaning, Quran and Science offers an illuminating journey through faith, mind and the cosmos.
