Rahar's and Then (Hardcover) (ISBN-13: 9798240811326)

Rahar's and Then is a gripping psychological mystery about memory, trauma, and the secrets that can remain buried for decades.

At Christmas time in 1979, several seemingly unrelated incidents begin unfolding across the United States. A successful Miami attorney is found unconscious in a Boston bar, unable to explain why he has traveled hundreds of miles toward a town he claims he does not know.

In San Francisco, a sailor suddenly falls into a mysterious trance at the helm of a yacht, forcing his friend to take violent action to prevent a catastrophe. In Chicago, a respected aerospace executive repeatedly risks his life by plunging into freezing water yet remembers almost nothing about what he has done.

Psychiatrists begin examining these disturbing episodes and discover that the patients' strange behavior may be connected to buried memories and traumatic events from their college years. As fragments of the past begin resurfacing, an old tragedy involving Dartmouth students, a devastating automobile accident, and a forgotten night at Rahar's Tavern starts to reveal a much larger mystery.

What first appears to be a series of isolated psychological episodes gradually becomes an intricate story of friendship, trauma, memory, crime, and survival. The investigation eventually leads to a shocking discovery involving a man believed to have died decades earlier and to a criminal case that forces the survivors to confront the darkest consequences of their past.

Spanning hospitals, courtrooms, college campuses, coastal communities, and cities across America, Rahar's and Then explores how the human mind can protect itself from unbearable memories and how, sometimes, the truth refuses to stay buried.
