Chris Crittenden has a PhD in philosophy, with academic publications focusing on ecofeminism. He lives in an isolated fishing village in Maine, fifty miles from the nearest traffic light. A wild paisley of bays and spruce, without any development to mar it, is an attainable vista--simply by hiking out behind the backdoor. Two months a year, he visits family in Los Angeles, which provides a topsy-turvy contrast and plenty of artistic angst. He considers his sources of ecstatic impetus to be somewhat shamanic. His writing, directed by various spirit guides or daemons, spans realms sublime to anguished. His channeling can be fevered, apocalyptic and lycanthropic or seductive, opiate and susurrous. About 800 of his poems have been published, along with several chapbooks, and a previous full-length collection (Jugularity, Anvil & Hammer Press). He is a teaching artist at the Poetry Coop, blogs as Owl Who Laughs, and was interviewed twice on KPFK radio LA. He is married to the talented artist Shanna Wheelock whose beauty and genius never fail to amaze or edify him (it is her artwork that graces the cover of Rebellion).
