Recover More Gold Nuggets: The Science of Suction Dredging (Paperback) (ISBN-13: 9798188326593)

A technical approach to recovering more gold nuggets from rivers using hydraulic dredging principles.
Gold nuggets are among the most challenging materials to recover with a suction dredge. Because gold is 19.3 times heavier than water, valuable nuggets quickly sink into sand and gravel, making them difficult to capture with conventional suction systems.
Based on decades of experience in dredging technology, G. van der Schrieck analyzes the complete gold recovery process - from getting heavy nuggets into the suction mouth to transporting them through the suction pipe and discharge pipeline.
This book explains:
- Why a simple straight suction tube often fails to capture deeply buried gold nuggets.
- How a specially designed suction mouth can improve nugget recovery.
- Why a Bottom Disc Cutterhead design offers advantages for excavating gold-bearing layers.
- How suction pipe geometry influences the transport of heavy nuggets.
- Why a vertical suction pipe can significantly reduce the water velocity required to lift nuggets to the surface.
- How waterjet pumps work and how to calculate their performance using a Q-H diagram and working point analysis.
Unlike typical gold prospecting books, this book focuses on the engineering principles behind successful suction dredging. It combines practical dredging experience with hydraulic theory to help readers design more effective gold recovery systems.
Whether you are a serious gold prospector, dredging enthusiast, or engineer interested in hydraulic transport, this book provides a deeper understanding of how to recover river gold more efficiently.
