Reflections On The Revolution In France (Hardcover) (ISBN-13: 9781169287532)

Reflections On The Revolution In France is a political treatise written by Edmund Burke, an Irish statesman and philosopher, in 1790. The book is a critical analysis of the French Revolution and its aftermath, which had a profound impact on the political and social landscape of Europe in the late 18th century.Burke's work is considered to be one of the most influential and important political treatises of the modern era. The book is divided into three parts, each of which explores different aspects of the French Revolution and its implications for society and politics. In the first part, Burke discusses the nature of the revolution and its origins. He argues that the revolution was not a spontaneous uprising of the people, but rather a deliberate and calculated attempt to overthrow the existing order and establish a new one based on radical and dangerous ideas. In the second part, Burke examines the principles of the revolution and the implications of these principles for society and politics. He argues that the revolutionaries' emphasis on individual rights and freedoms, at the expense of traditional institutions and social structures, would lead to chaos and anarchy. In the third part, Burke offers his own vision for a stable and just society, based on the principles of tradition, hierarchy, and order. He argues that society must be built on a foundation of moral and religious values, and that the role of government is to uphold and defend these values.Overall, Reflections On The Revolution In France is a powerful and thought-provoking work that continues to be studied and debated by scholars and politicians today. It is a must-read for anyone interested in the history of political thought and the development of modern democracy. Is it possible I should? It appears to me as if I were in a great crisis, not of the affairs of France alone, but of all Europe, perhaps of more than Europe. All circumstances taken together, the French revolution is the most astonishing that has hitherto happened in the world. The most wonderful things are brought about, in many instances by means the most absurd and ridiculous, in the most ridiculous modes. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations.
