Refuge and Warm Tea (Paperback) (ISBN-13: 9798871866887)

'Is this what crazy feels like?' Shell-shocked and disoriented, Johanna abandons her home and her family-leaving everything familiar and comforting behind-to seek refuge in Canada. She doesn't know what she's running away from. blurry memories of abduction, drugs, and beatings haunt her; they scare her, and she runs.
With nowhere else to go, Johanna knocks on Sandy's door. She never met Sandy before. He's an internet friend and the only Canadian she knows. But Sandy turns out to be a complete surprise. He's a First Nations elder, and he's leaving soon for the Yukon where he was born and raised. "You may come with me," he tells Johanna.
In the Yukon, perils and challenges lie ahead for Johanna. Harsh winters, isolation, and physical dangers are just the beginning. Sandy's son-in-law, a Mountie, finds Johanna's terrified manner suspicious and vows to discover her secrets. Sandy's grandson dislikes her the minute he meets her. 'You're not my mother. She died, and Dad killed her.'
Worst of all, the demons in Johanna's head never let her know peace.
"You must face your fears," Sandy says. "It is the First Nations way."
Timid Johanna must face her fears.
