Religion and Morals of the Early Filipinos at the Coming of the Spaniards (Paperback) (ISBN-13: 9781025948669)

"Religion and Morals of the Early Filipinos at the Coming of the Spaniards" is a scholarly examination of the indigenous belief systems and ethical frameworks that existed in the Philippine archipelago prior to European contact. Dame Edmunde Delbeke delves into the complex spiritual life of the early Filipinos, exploring their pantheon of deities, ritual practices, and the deep-seated superstitions that governed daily existence. Through a careful analysis of early historical records and missionary accounts, the work reconstructs the social and moral fabric of pre-Hispanic society, highlighting the transition from traditional animist traditions to the religious landscape shaped by the arrival of Spanish explorers.

This study provides essential insights into the cultural identity of the Philippine people, offering a window into the rites of passage, social hierarchies, and judicial concepts that predated Western influence. It serves as a vital resource for historians, anthropologists, and those interested in the evolution of religious thought in Southeast Asia. By documenting the intersection of native customs and early colonial pressures, the work remains a significant contribution to the understanding of the historical and spiritual heritage of the Philippines.
