Dr. Hinman is presently retired; he and his wife live in Longmont, Colorado. He graduated from the University of Nebraska, where in addition to receiving a medical degree, he also taught physiology and did research in the electrophysioology of muscular dystrophy. Following a naval internship and subsequent service with the marines, he practiced family medicine for thirty-five years in Longmont. Through most of those years, his wife served as office nurse, and the last five years were in partnership with his son Mark, who currently continues the practice. Dr. Hinman served as chief of staff during its merger, and was the founding chairperson for both the Department of Family Practice and the Quality Assessment Committee. He is a member of the American Academy of Family Parctice and a charter member of the American Board of Family Medicine.
