He served his community on the Gulfport School Board. Claiborne became a member of First Baptist Church Gulfport, MS, in 1954 and has taught Bible classes since then. He is a retired deacon, former trustee, and Spiritual Counselor for Gulf Coast Community Ministries. Both he and his wife teach Bible Classes. Claiborne became a Gideon in 1962.
