She has worked extensively with struggling readers at elementary, middle, and high schools in her years as a classroom teacher, reading specialist, resource specialist, and literacy consultant. Most recently, she has worked with elementary and middle schools to quickly raise the decoding and word recognition levels of students reading signi cantly below grade level.
Sharon has inspired thousands of teachers through her reading courses at UC Berkeley Extension, professional development in schools throughout California, and her many years as a featured speaker at reading conferences around the country. Her courses with the Bureau of Education & Research (BER) bring her to cities around the country to share her unique and effective strategies for working with struggling readers. She works with school administrators, classroom and reading intervention teachers, reading specialists, literacy coaches, and special education teachers to plan effective reading intervention and classroom strategies for bringing struggling readers up to grade level quickly and for preventing low word recognition in the first place.
