The author is a retired pediatrician who investigated disease outbreaks for the Centers for Disease Control and the Texas Health Department. He joined the computer revolution in the 1980's and founded a software company for monitoring hospital employee health and preventing hospital-acquired infections in patients. He graduated from medical school in 1977, and his son completed medical school in 2018. This story was inspired by their experiences.
