ROCAMBOLE'S LAST WORD (Le Dernier Mot de Rocambole English Edition): The Rocambole Saga - Book Six - Part II (Paperback) (ISBN-13: 9798193552291)

They kill without a sound - a silk cord, a whispered prayer to a goddess of death, and another young woman vanishes. Now the stranglers have come to London, and one man means to stop them.

Rocambole takes his loyal band across the Channel - Milon, Vanda, and a handful of repentant Ravageurs - onto the fog-bound docks of London, on the trail of the Thugs: an Indian cult of stranglers who abduct young women to be carried off and sacrificed to the goddess Kali. In a city of gaslight, disguise and hidden rooms, the reformed criminal matches the cult's patience with his own, hunting the man who leads them while the net tightens around a single girl he has sworn to protect. To beat killers who leave no mark, Rocambole will have to think like the criminal he used to be.

For readers who love a master of disguise on the side of the angels - the gentleman-thief spirit of Arsène Lupin, the long game of The Count of Monte Cristo.

Newly translated by Sofia E.V. Hamett from Ponson du Terrail's original serials, this edition is written in the natural English of a modern thriller: faithful to the plot, the characters and the events, and alive on the page for today's reader. Complete and unabridged.

Part II of Rocambole's Last Word - the story continues in Part III. New to the saga? It begins in Book One, The Mysterious Inheritance.
