A native of New Orleans, John R. Kemp has served as deputy director for the Louisiana Endowment for the Humanities and as chief curator of the Louisiana State Museum's Historical Center in New Orleans. A former staff writer and contributing art columnist for the New Orleans Times-Picayune, Kemp has written numerous books and articles about New Orleans art for many publications including ARTnews, Art & Antiques, and Louisiana Life. He also covers the city's art scene for New Orleans public television's Steppin' Out. Kemp holds a BA in history from Loyola University New Orleans and a MA in history from the University of Southern Mississippi. He resides on the Mississippi Gulf Coast.
