The Author: Carol Ann Levin Benet received a B.A. in English and an M.A. in French from the University of Michigan, and a Ph.D. in Comparative Literature form the University of California, Berkeley. She has taugth Comparative Literature and French at UC Berkeley and Washington State University. As a drama critic in Marin County, Californaia, and a member of the San Francisco Bay Area Drama Critics Circle, Dr. Benet sees the theater in America from a privileged position. To research this book, she lived and travelled in Germany where she conducted interviews and visited archives and theaters.
